Must-See Places!
Documentation Center of Luserna
The Luserna Documentation Center (Dokumentationszentrum Lusern) is located in the center of the small town on the Trentino plateau, halfway between the areas of Folgaria and Asiago. It was inaugurated in 1996 by the local administration to collect historical evidence from the area, with particular focus on the tragic period of the Great War.
Luserna found itself on the front lines during the bombings of summer 1915 and before the Strafexpedition, caused by both Austro-Hungarian and Italian forts.
The center has had, from the start, a display room with material collected or donated over the years. Alongside display cases, there’s a reconstructed high mountain outpost to recreate the wartime atmosphere. Images on the walls show visitors the real situations soldiers faced in this area.
In 2010, a second room called the “Highland Forts Visitor Center” was opened, showcasing Austro-Hungarian and Italian fort systems through photos, panels, and videos.
The Documentation Center also regularly promotes and organizes temporary exhibitions focusing on specific topics related to the First World War. https://www.lusern.it/

Small villages scattered across the plateau still preserve very ancient traditions, and the local culture remains steeped in Cimbrian elements of medieval Germanic origin (possibly even from northern tribes defeated by the Romans in the 2nd century BC).
This plateau is a small world that once fascinated even Sigmund Freud, the Viennese psychologist who loved spending his holidays near Lake Lavarone at the end of the 19th century. Today, alongside nature, it’s also possible to explore the many traces of the First World War left on this land. In particular, the plateau of Folgaria, Lavarone and Luserna was known for the presence of several large
